ROCKWOOL® launches the UK & Ireland’s most thermally efficient stone wool insulation

As rising energy prices cause us to place more focus on our home’s energy efficiency, insulation manufacturer, ROCKWOOL is raising the bar on its products’ thermal performance, launching the most thermally efficient stone wool insulation currently available in the UK and Ireland.

Its two new products, Thermal Insulation Cavity Slab 32 and Thermal Frame Slab 32, are made using NyRock® technology, a patented process that creates a more efficient fibre structure that is denser and traps more air. This extra air helps slow the transfer of heat further for greater thermal performance and a low thermal conductivity value (lambda) of 0.032 W/mK.

Importantly, the new products deliver this upgraded thermal capability while still maintaining the additional benefits of stone wool insulation including natural non-combustibility and acoustic performance.

Both Thermal Insulation Cavity Slab 32 and Thermal Frame Slab 32 also provide energy efficiency benefits that are consistent over time thanks to their high density semi-rigid design. This means they will not slump or sag once fitted, potentially leading to a drop in performance. In fact, stone wool insulation is shown to maintain the same thermal and fire resistance properties more than 55 years after installation, according to independent research.¹

ROCKWOOL Thermal Insulation Cavity Slab 32 is suitable for masonry cavities in new build, renovations and extensions and is certified for full and partial fill applications.² Due to its 0.032 W/mK thermal conductivity value, a 13% improvement on the company’s existing cavity slab product³, Thermal Insulation Cavity Slab 32 also delivers space saving benefits.

To achieve a U-value of 0.18 W/m²K, 150mm of Thermal Insulation Cavity Slab 032 can be used – depending on the wall build up planned – which is 25mm thinner than the standard stone wool cavity products in a like-for-like application.

For projects using alternative methods of construction, ROCKWOOL has created Thermal Frame Slab 032 which is available in 570mm widths for quick fitting into timber frame and steel walls.

Both new products are designed for easy installation and can be closely friction fitted, without the need for precise cutting. As well as minimising room for error when cutting, the products’ pliability makes it easier to get a snug fit that reduces the potential for heat to escape. ROCKWOOL stone wool slabs will also knit together when installed to help achieve a seamless finish.

Paul Barrett, Head of Product Management at ROCKWOOL UK said:

“When choosing insulation for your home, it’s important to think about its thermal performance not just when built, but in the longer term too.”

“Alongside having the highest levels of fire performance, a huge benefit of stone wool is its ability to maintain its thermal and fire resilience properties over decades. For those building their dream home or investing in an extension, that capability – and combined with our new level of thermal performance – gives added reassurance that you’re insulating your home to the highest standard.”
