Industry leaders host ‘Live Site’ SIPs CPD event in Leeds

SIPS@Clays and Kingspan Insulation host hands-on Kingspan TEK CPD part 2 – Live Site Application for industry professionals on the benefits of building with SIPs.

A group of 33 architects and designers gathered in Leeds recently for a ‘live build’ Continuing Professional Development (CPD) event, focusing on Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) construction. Jointly hosted by SIPs provider SIPS@Clays, Kingspan Insulation UK and property developer Langton Holdings Ltd, the event demonstrated the practical application and environmental performance of building with SIPs, and in particular, the Kingspan TEK Building System.

Set against the backdrop of an active building site in Headingley, where a development of four new SIP townhouses is being constructed by Langton Holdings Ltd, the cohort of architects listened to Kingspan Insulation’s Kris Taylor talk about the advantages of Kingspan TEK, including the  system’s thermal performance, design considerations, airtightness, speed of build and compliance with current building regulations.

Guests had the opportunity to walk through the fully operational construction site, witnessing first hand, the completed structural shell during 1st fix. They were able to see how the SIPs shell is constructed using Kingspan TEK’s unique jointing system, which creates an airtight structural envelope, and hear also about the additional benefits of off-site construction including rapid construction times, exceptional build accuracy, increased internal floor space, outstanding airtightness performance, low elemental U-values, and reduced linear thermal bridging.

One of the highlights of the event was the presentation delivered by William Langton, Managing Director of Langton Holdings Ltd, who, as well as offering a practical perspective on installation efficiencies such as savings in foundations, scaffolding and site preliminaries, alongside the significant programme advantages achievable through offsite construction, was on hand to engage directly with guests in a real time situation.

Ian Clay, Founding Partner, SIPS@Clays said:  “This type of live-environment CPD is invaluable for construction professionals and self-builders alike. It allows them not only to learn about the benefits of SIPs, ask technical questions directly to manufacturers and see for themselves how effective the Kingspan TEK Building System is but also helps to bridge the gap between specification and construction. We hope that our live CPDs will show industry professionals, first hand, how SIPs are not just a niche option – they’re a smarter, faster and more sustainable way to build”.

Comment from Kris Taylor, TEK Product Manager, North, Kingspan Insulation: “Kingspan TEK was proud to be involved in a highly successful and well-attended event showcasing the advantages of modern methods of construction to an audience of architects, developers, and end clients.

“The event further reinforced the growing demand for high-performance, energy-efficient building systems that can deliver both technical excellence and commercial value across the residential construction sector.”

William Langton, Managing Director, Langton Holdings Ltd said: “The development here in Headingley is a compact, challenging plot and so is the perfect site to highlight the benefits that off-site, SIPs construction offers.

“As a long-standing client of SIPS@Clays, we were delighted to welcome guests to site. This is our 37th project using the Kingspan TEK Building System, which we specify for its speed of build; precision off-site manufacturing – which is ideal for our micro-developments; its low carbon footprint and the excellent energy performance of the completed homes, that we retain in our property portfolio. We could not recommend SIPs more.

With growing demand for faster, more energy-efficient modern methods of construction, SIPs continue to gain traction across the UK. Events such as this underline the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing to further establish SIPs as the mainstream modern method of construction it has become.
